The Homeless World Cup is a world-class, annual international football tournament, uniting teams of people who are homeless and excluded from society to take a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent their country and change their lives forever. From 1-7 December 2008 Federation Square and Birrarung Marr will come alive with the grit, spirit and glory of the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup, proudly hosted by The Big Issue. Over 500 players from 56 nations will come together with one goal - to end homelessness and change lives.
Showcasing the talents and involvement of people with a disability in local communities across the south west region of Victoria. This is an annual event spanning a month and including a range of events and activities such as:

The Summer Read 2008, a program launched by the State Library of Victoria's, celebrates the diversity of Victorian writing and encourages Victorians to enjoy some great books over summer. Using a reader-knows-best-policy, The Summer Read asks readers to vote for their favourite from a diverse list of 20 books of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, memoir, sports history and short stories, each set in Victoria or written by Victorians.
